Chapter 16
Danica hated doing this to shut Titus up, but on the plus side, she was still kissing him, and that was always awesome.
He cupped the back of her head and deepened the kiss. His beard scraped her cheeks while his mouth plundered hers deliciously, and when she pulled back, she was breathless. Titus stroked a finger down her cheek, traced the line of her lips, and pressed against the small indent in her chin. It was like he was memorizing her features, and damn. She couldnât say that anyone had ever looked at her like that before, as if the sun rose and set in her eyes. Her heart went wild.
âMaya has plans tonight,â he said softly. âAnd it wonât take me that long at the station. Do you want to come over for a while? If the quarrel with your cousin can wait.â
His brown eyes practically simmered at her, and she immediately forgot all the reasons why this was a bad idea. âWhat time?â
âSeven.â
âIâll be there,â she said.
There would be questions when she got home, but currently, she didnât care. Quickly Danica packed up her lunch and hugged him impulsively. She wasnât prepared for the sheer power of it, the way he wrapped himself around her and laid his cheek against the top of her head. Titus hugged like his life depended on it. She felt the goofy smile forming when he finally let go.
âI might make it through the day now,â he said. âThanks for the top-up.â
âUh, no problem.â
âIâll text you my address. See you tonight!â He waved as she walked off.
Heâs so sweet and open. What if I hurt him?
Guilt surged as she hurried back to the shop. Sheâd stopped by the clinic first thing so she could keep her promise to Titus, and the afternoon kept her too busy to worry about personal problems, as a small series of emergencies kept her hopping. Clem left soon after she returned, looking every bit as cranky as sheâd feared. Goddess only knew what her cousin would say if she knew Danica was headed over to Titusâs place tonight. She tried to tell herself it was a booty call, not a date, but even she didnât believe it entirely. He just wasnât that guy.
If Leanne was right, a few more hookups and it should be easier to let him go, right? She just had to keep her magic locked down, no wild spikes in unprotected locations. It was safe to do normal repair work in the shop; they had it shielded until not even a trickle should escape, and she thought the witch hunter would find the name a bit obvious, which was exactly the point, letting them hide in plain sight. Service calls were another matter.
How are we supposed to earn a living with that asshole sniffing around?
âOh!â Sudden inspiration struck, and she called Ethel, as the older witch didnât like texting. Too bad.
âWhatâs up, hon?â That was Ethel, cutting right to the chase. If only more people were like that on the phone.
